RGA operates in Canada through its wholly owned subsidiary, RGA Life Reinsurance Company of Canada. Since entering the Canadian marketplace in 1992, the company has grown to a significant leadership position through individual life reinsurance. This growth is the result of RGA’s focus on understanding the key financial issues affecting life companies in Canada, and its expertise and innovation in structuring reinsurance to help clients address those issues. Today, RGA Canada does business with almost every life insurance company in Canada.

In addition to offering traditional facultative and automatic reinsurance, RGA is an innovator in developing non-traditional reinsurance products and services that help insurance and financial organizations grow their business. RGA Canada expanded its focus in 2004 to include group life and health reinsurance and in 2007 began reinsuring guaranteed critical illness products, leveraging RGA’s worldwide expertise in this area. RGA Canada is a Canadian life reinsurer regulated by the federal Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) and is active within the insurance industry and with related organizations, including the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association, the Canadian Reinsurance Conference, the Canadian Institute of Underwriters, l'Association Québécoise des Tarificateurs-vie, and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
